- An award of NOK 148 million (USD 14.8million) has been granted
- Operations are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024
The government of Norway is providing an award of NOK 148 million (USD 14.8 million) to Denmark’s Everfuel A/S and Norway’s Greenstat As to develop a hydrogen hub in Kristiansand, Norway.
The projects include constructing a 20 MW electrolyse near the harbour at the Elkem Fiskaa industrial compound. The project’s main focus is on the supply of clean energy to the shipping industry. The project’s planning phase is to commence immediately, and operations are expected to commence in the fourth quarter of 2024. By 2027, a second phase is expected to be ready for commissioning and will expand the PtX facility to a 60 MW electrolyser.
The two companies, in collaboration with industrial companies Elkem ASA and Glencore Nikkelverk, will be responsible for developing the hub.
Asides from the shipping segment, the partners are looking at offtake opportunities in the construction industry, trucking mobility, refuse services, taxi fleets and providing green energy supplies to industrial clients. The two companies have signed letters of intent with clients for more than 8,000 tonnes of compressed hydrogen annually.
