Exergy to Deliver 8 Power Plants for RentCo’s Geothermal Project in Kenya

  • These units delivered by Exergy will collectively generate approximately 30 MWe.
  • Kenya is 6th in the global geothermal power capacity ranking and will soon join the 1 gigawatt (GW) club.

Exergy International srl (Exergy) has announced a cooperation agreement to supply eight Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power plants to RentCo Africa Limited (RentCo) for a wellhead geothermal power generation project in the Olkaria field.

These units will collectively generate approximately 30 megawatts electric (MWe). Under the agreement, Exergy will contribute extensive expertise in geothermal binary power plant design and maintenance. The firm will leverage advanced Radial Outflow Turbine (ROT) technology to support RentCo’s expansion in the geothermal sector.

In addition, this RentCo project aims to increase the power generation capacity of the Olkaria geothermal field by 67 MWe through a combination of flash and ORC power plant technologies.

Exergy is a global leader in next-generation Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power plants, while RentCo is a company specialising in energy leasing solutions in Kenya.

Luca Pozzoni, the General Manager of Exergy, stated, “We are delighted to begin this collaboration with RentCo, which we believe will yield positive outcomes for the development of renewable energy in Kenya and other African regions.

“Africa holds substantial renewable energy potential, and we are deeply committed to helping harness this potential with our technology and expertise. Our aim is to contribute to a smooth clean energy transition in Africa, improving electricity access for an increasing number of people across the continent.”

The announcement follows the just-concluded Kenya Geothermal Congress in Nairobi. Kenya currently holds 6th place in the global geothermal power capacity ranking and will soon join the 1 gigawatt (GW) club.
