- 1 million meters targeted for installation in the first phase
The Special Adviser to the President on Critical Infrastructure, Ahmed Zakari, has assured Nigerians of the commitment of the Federal Government towards metering. Mr. Zakari made this known in a conversation with Leadership Newspapers. He said despite the current delay, the program is on track to deliver its objectives.
Mr. Zakari stated that of the ₦69 billion budgeted for the first phase of the program, ₦30 billion has already been disbursed for the purchase of 400,000 meters. He added that the government will wait until the first phase of the program has been achieved before commencing the second phase.
On the timeline for the completion of phase one, Mr. Zakari said, “I believe by the end of March, we would have released all this money while the rollout continues. We are going to run the phases in a parallel manner; we are not waiting until the first phase is over before commencing the next”.
The second phase of the program will see the installation of a targeted 4,000,000 meters across the country.
