FG Commences Training for Engineers Under Siemens Project

  • FG Power company has started Network Development Studies training.
  • FG claims the PPI will provide over 40 million people with a more reliable electricity supply.
  • The project targets the addition of 2,000MW to the national grid in 18 months.

The Federal Government of Nigeria Power Company has commenced the first Network Development Studies training under Phase One of the Presidential Power Initiative (PPI). The Federal Government established the FGN Power Company Limited to coordinate the PPI in collaboration with German firm Siemens. Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, noted at the commencement of the training that the PPI would improve the reliability of electricity supply to 40 million people across the country. It also stated that the PPI would generate 11,000 direct and indirect jobs in Nigeria to improve living standards by providing consistent and affordable electricity. 

Zainab Ahmed, who chairs the FGN Power Company’s board, has named the other board members, including Ministers of Power, Works and Housing, and Justice. Abubakar Aliyu, Minister of Power, represented by Minister of State for Power, Goddy Jedy-Agba, stated that the project would add 2,000MW of electricity to the national grid in 18 months, increasing the grid capacity to about 7,000MW. “The PPI’s goal is to increase Nigeria’s power system’s end-to-end grid operational capacity to 25GW, but the focus in the next 18 months will be to deliver the first additional 2000MW,” Aliyu said.
