Nigeria’s federal government has stated its desire to install over 36 million electricity meters for electricity consumers across the country by the end of Q2 2021. These plans were made known by the Minister of State Power, Gody Jeddy Agba, at the inspection of the meter testing facility of the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) in Enugu.
The Minister noted that he was satisfied with the facility’s quality that will inspect and certify all imported electricity meters. According to Agba, the NEMSA plant and testing facility in Enugu will ensure that there is no mediocrity and incompetence in handling government projects as the country looks to play a pivotal role in Africa’s economic development.
Agba emphasised that the federal government is committed to revamping and resuscitating the power sector to aid and complement growth in the economy’s manufacturing and industrial sub-sectors.
The chief electrical officer of the federation and managing director, NEMSA Peter Ewosa, also stated that the facility would help certify the technical fitness of all electricity meters imported into the country.
