FG, Siemens sign Pre-Engineering contract
- This is in line with the Presidential Power Initiative
- The deal involves the addition of 25,000MW to the grid
The Federal Government has signed the Pre-Engineering contract with Siemens for the pre-engineering phase of the 25,000MW deal with Siemens. Recall, the FG had entered into an agreement with Siemens in 2019 to boost the power sector’s generation capacity. The deal is in line with the Presidential Power Initiative.
The Punch Newspaper reports that the agreement “Enables Siemens AG and Siemens Energy to drive forward this mega project, which will upgrade the electricity network to achieve an operational capacity of 25,000 megawatts from the current average of around 4,500 MW, through a series of projects spanning three phases”.
The pre-engineering phase includes specifications for onshore installation, engineering design works, , network development studies, commissioning works for the transmission and distribution systems power simulation, training, and other support services.
The Managing Director Siemens Energy Nigeria Seun Suleiman, reiterated the determination of the company to achieve its objectives in Nigeria. He said, “Siemens Energy is committed to working with the Federal Government of Nigeria through the FGNPowerCo to see a successful implementation of the presidential power initiative. We have successfully carried out a similar project in Egypt”. Siemens has successfully completed a similar project in Egypt.
