The federal government plans to increase the deployment of clean energy systems in schools and hospitals across the country, according to the Minister of State, Power, Mr Goddy Jedy-Agba. The Minister restated this at the commissioning of a 60KWP solar hybrid mini-grid power plant in Obudu Cattle Ranch, Cross River.
Jedy-Agba noted that the government acknowledges the critical role that renewable energy play in increasing energy access. He noted that the government fully intends to diversify the country’s energy supply. He stated that the government plans to utilise Nigeria’s massive renewable energy resources efficiently.
The minister stated that capital appropriation for clean energy projects is appropriately utilised by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). The Managing Director, REA, Mr Ahmad Salihijo, in his remarks, emphasised that off-grid electrification is key to accelerating national development. Salihijo urged the beneficiaries of the mini-grid system to optimise usage of the system for maximum impact and economic growth.
