The FGN Power Company has sought collaboration with the Kwara State Government to enhance electricity supply across the state. The engagement took place under the Presidential Power Initiative.
Officials disclosed this on Thursday, January 29, during a stakeholders’ meeting in Ilorin. Representatives from the Ministry of Energy, the FGN Power Company and the Transmission Company of Nigeria attended the session.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Olaitan Afolabi, represented the Commissioner for Energy. He assured participants that the Kwara State Government would fully support the initiative.
Afolabi described the project as a laudable federal intervention. He said the state government continues to prioritise economic, social and infrastructure development.
Furthermore, he said Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has already begun installing 34 transformers across the state through the Ministry of Power. He noted that the action reflects the administration’s commitment to residents’ welfare.
Afolabi said reliable electricity remains critical to development. He added that the government is taking deliberate steps to strengthen growth across all sectors.
The permanent secretary also said the initiative will benefit residents and attract new investors to Kwara State.
Oladunjoye Olubukola, Coordinator for Distribution Lines and Injection Sub-stations at the FGN Power Company, said the Offa Sub-station forms part of Phase One of the Presidential Power Initiative.
Dr Robert Eze, Coordinator for Environmental, Social and Governance at the FGN Power Company, said the programme aims to close Nigeria’s energy gap. In addition, he said the initiative focuses on increasing electricity supply nationwide through comprehensive solutions.
Eze also said the project will energise more feeders. He added that the upgrade will support commercial, industrial and residential activities while improving Kwara’s investment appeal.
Chizoba Ezeoke, Assistant General Manager for Transmission in the Oshogbo Sub-region, said the project will benefit Offa and surrounding communities. She said the initiative will create jobs and deliver more stable and reliable electricity.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Energy, the FGN Power Company and the Transmission Company of Nigeria also attended the meeting.
