A fire broke out early Monday morning, March 10, at the premises of Geometric Power, operators of Aba Power, Nigeria’s newest electricity distribution company (DisCo), in the Osisioma Industrial Layout, Aba, Abia State.

Geometric Power management confirmed that the fire started in a temporary building on the premises. The building, which Group 5, a defunct South African electricity firm, had used during the construction of the company’s facilities, had stood unused for over 12 years.

While the exact cause remains unclear, Geometric Power staff acted quickly to contain the fire before the Abia State Fire Service arrived. The fire service responded swiftly to the emergency call, working with the staff to fully extinguish the fire and prevent further spread.

The company praised its employees for their swift action, noting that they helped prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the facility. Geometric Power also thanked the Abia State Fire Service for its timely and professional response, minimising damage.

In addition to recognising their staff and the fire service, Geometric Power thanked concerned members of the public who offered support during the incident. The company reassured the public that the fire had no impact on critical infrastructure or operations, and the power supply to the Aba area remained unaffected.

Geometric Power has launched an investigation to identify the cause of the fire. The company prioritises safety and will take necessary measures to prevent future incidents.

The company reported no casualties and began assessing any damage and necessary repairs. Geometric Power reaffirmed its commitment to strict safety protocols protecting facilities and staff.

While the affected building had stood unused for over a decade, the incident highlighted the importance of ongoing vigilance. Geometric Power reassured customers that electricity distribution services would continue without interruption, and they remain focused on maintaining operational safety and service delivery.

The management also promised to provide updates as they uncover more information about the incident.
