II-VI is procuring renewable energy for more than 30 of its locations throughout the world as part of its goal to reduce its carbon impact. The company already powers all of its European sites with 100% renewable electricity.
Under new power off-take arrangements with an undisclosed entity, US-engineered materials and optoelectronic components provider II-VI Inc will use 100% renewable electricity at several domestic sites.
The Saxonburg, Pennsylvania-based firm announced the agreements, claiming that they will allow it to acquire 20 million kWh of electricity each year. The electricity will aid the company’s transition to 100% renewable energy at nine of its US locations, including manufacturing plants and small engineering offices in California, Oregon, New Jersey, and New York. The contracted power is expected to offset approximately 5,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
“With these agreements, we now purchase approximately 30% of our electricity from renewable sources,” said Gary Kapusta, chief shared services and supply chain officer at II-VI. He added that the company expects to continue buying more renewable power every year.
