First Electric Vehicle Centre Opens in Nigeria

  • The electric vehicle experience centre would play an essential role in helping Nigeria achieve its net zero emissions goal by 2060.
  • The company will showcase leading electric vehicle brands like Tesla and BMW.

Possible EVS, an electric vehicle manufacturing company in Nigeria, has launched Africa’s First Multi-brand Electric Vehicle Experience Centre (EVEC). The EVEC was set up to bridge the knowledge gap and drive widespread adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in the country. The firm will display leading electric vehicle brands, such as Tesla and BMW.

As the company outlines, the centre would serve as a platform for Nigerians to discover the advantages of electric mobility and play an essential role in driving the achievement of Nigeria’s net zero emissions goal by 2060. The centre will allow visitors to explore, learn about, and test-drive the newest models from renowned brands. It will provide them with firsthand experience of the exceptional performance, cutting-edge technology, and environmental benefits of electric vehicles.

Furthermore, the centre intends to serve as a platform for government agencies, development partners, relevant stakeholders, and investors in the automotive sector to assemble and engage in meaningful conversations to drive policies that will facilitate the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in the country.

The founder of Possible EVS, Mosope Olaosebikan, stated that this was the right time for Nigeria owing to the tremendous increase in electric vehicle adoption globally. The CEO expects the number of electric vehicles in Nigeria to rise to one million by 2028 with adequate support from the government and stakeholders.

In a statement, he said, “The introduction of electric vehicles will surely raise numerous questions in the minds of Nigerians. EVEC is dedicated to bridging the knowledge gap and providing comprehensive education. The EVEC team will be available to answer questions, guide visitors through the intricacies of electric vehicle ownership, and demonstrate how the technology works. Whether it’s showing visitors how EVs are charged, debunking common misconceptions and anxiety about range, or discussing the economic and environmental benefits, EVEC will be the ultimate site for Nigerians seeking clarity and reliable information. We hope to make EVEC an answer to everyone who doubts whether electric cars are possible in an energy-poor country like Nigeria.”
