- Nersa adds 210MW of renewable energy via Eskom’s grid connection.
- The regulator has approved registration certificates for 16 generation facilities.
The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) has announced that a combined 210MW of renewable energy will be added to SA’s energy mix via Eskom’s grid connection. This announcement comes after the government of SA signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with developers.
The regulator has approved registration certificates for sixteen generation facilities with combined wind and solar energy capacities.
Power purchase agreements were signed last week between the government, Eskom and a private renewable energy company for three of the 11 successful bids for SA’s emergency power procurement programme, which was flagged off in 2020 to supplement the country’s immediate energy shortfall with about 2,000MW of power supply.
