Popular US car manufacturer Ford Motor Company has revealed that it will purchase 650 MW solar project from DTE Energy. The companies have recognised the project as the largest renewable energy purchase from a utility that has been in the US.
According to the agreement, 650 MW of new solar capacity will be added for Ford in Michigan. The result is that all Ford vehicles produced in the state will be assembled with the equivalent of 100% green electricity by that year. This achievement will come a decade earlier than the company initially planned.
The agreement is a part of DTE’s MIGreenPower voluntary renewable energy programme. The new project is projected to raise the installed solar capacity in Michigan by almost 70%.
“Ford was the first large industrial customer to enrol in our MIGreenPower program in 2019 and we thank Ford for its continued commitment to using MIGreenPower to help decarbonise its operations and meet its sustainability goals,” said DTE chairman and chief executive Jerry Norcia.
“This unprecedented agreement is all about a greener and brighter future for Ford and Michigan,” commented Ford’s president and chief executive, Jim Farley.
