- Formula 1 team up with Aggreko to provide low-carbon energy systems for all European Grands Prix starting in 2025.
- The system, tested at the Austrian, Hungarian, and Monza Grands Prix, has reduced carbon emissions by over 90% in critical areas.
- The collaboration supports Formula 1’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2030 through innovative energy solutions.
Formula 1 has announced a landmark multi-year partnership with Aggreko, a leader in low-carbon energy solutions, to deliver innovative energy systems at all European Grands Prix starting in the 2025 season. As part of this collaboration, Aggreko will be officially recognised as the energy provider for the Formula 1 series.
The partnership commenced in 2023 and saw its first significant deployment at the Austrian Grand Prix. The centralised power generation system introduced at this event dramatically reduced carbon emissions by over 90% within critical areas such as the Paddock, Pit Lane, and broadcast zones compared to the previous year’s race.
This significant reduction was made possible using renewable energy sources, including hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), biofuel, solar panels, and advanced battery storage systems.
Following the success of the initial trial, the system was implemented again at the Red Bull Ring and later at the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2024. It has also been set up for this weekend’s race at Monza. These expanded trials consistently show substantial carbon reductions, affirming the system’s effectiveness.
Consequently, starting in 2025, this innovative energy solution will be deployed across all European Grand Prix, reflecting Formula 1’s commitment to sustainability.
Ellen Jones, Head of ESG at Formula 1, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “Our entire paddock is committed to achieving Net Zero by 2030. Introducing this low-carbon energy generation system is a crucial component of that goal.
By combining cutting-edge technology with coordinated action, we are demonstrating how we can reduce the environmental impact of our events and move towards a more sustainable future.”
Robert Wells, President of Aggreko Europe and Aggreko Event Services, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “Aggreko has a long-standing reputation for delivering power solutions in some of the world’s most demanding and challenging environments.
“We are honoured to support Formula 1’s ambitious journey towards carbon net zero by 2030. This partnership highlights our role in the global energy transition and our commitment to providing innovative solutions that drive positive change.”
The partnership with Aggreko represents a significant step forward in Formula 1’s sustainability efforts. It showcases how major sporting events can adopt and benefit from advanced energy technologies, setting a new standard for environmental responsibility in the industry.
As Formula 1 continues to lead the way in sustainability, this collaboration with Aggreko marks a pivotal moment in pursuing a greener, more sustainable future for motorsport.
