Fortis Energy Adds Turkish Biogas Plant to Renewable Portfolio

  • Fortis Energy has added the 3.55 MWe Çobanlar Biogas Power Plant in Afyon, Türkiye, to its renewable energy portfolio.
  • The Çobanlar facility processes 100,000 tonnes of organic waste annually, generating 26 GWh of electricity and producing organic fertiliser.

Fortis Energy has added the 3.55 MW Çobanlar Biogas Power Plant in Afyon, Türkiye, to its expanding portfolio of renewable energy assets, boosting its total installed biogas capacity to more than 21 MW.

Operational since 2021, the facility processes about 100,000 tonnes of agricultural and animal waste each year through anaerobic digestion and generates over 26 GWh of electricity annually. The plant converts solid and liquid waste into renewable power while supporting sustainable waste management practices.

The plant also produces organic fertiliser as a by-product, which Fortis distributes to local farmers as a substitute for synthetic fertilisers. This approach supports soil health and reinforces the company’s circular economy strategy.

With Çobanlar in its portfolio, Fortis Energy operates five biogas power plants, four in Türkiye and one in Serbia. The plants supply more than 190 GWh of renewable energy each year, helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future.
