Four Cooling Towers Demolished in Eggborough

Former coal-fired power station in Eggborough, North Yorkshire, saw the demolition of four out of eight cooling towers measuring 300ft. The towers were demolished following plans to redevelop the plant site. The 2,000MW power plant began generating electricity in 1967 and was subsequently decommissioned in 2018 when it became financially unviable.

The power plant generated enough electricity to power up Leeds and Sheffield. St Francis Group, which bought over the power plant site, plans to construct an industrial and distribution park on the site after the remaining structures are demolished.

The United Kingdom (UK) is working towards achieving net-zero contributions by 2050.
