  • Valorem inaugurates a solar-powered cold room in M’bour, Senegal.

The French company Valorem has announced the commissioning of a solar-powered cold room in Senegal. The M’bour solar cold store was inaugurated in the presence of Aïssatou Sophie Gladima, Senegal’s Minister of Petroleum and Energy, her counterpart Alioune Ndoye, Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, and officials from the National Agency for Renewable Energy (ANER).

The project deployed in M’bour Municipality will revolutionise the activities of fishers. The plant comprises a set of solar panels mounted on a maritime container containing an electricity storage system. The cold store can continue operations after sunset or in poor weather with this system.

The cold store was installed with funding from the French Global Environment Facility (FFEM). According to a local news source, this is Valorem’s second cold room installed in Senegal, following the one in Fass Boye in the Thiès region, also financed by the FFEM. To accelerate the deployment of its solution in Africa and beyond, Valorem has partnered with Medit Frigo, a company based in Marseille, France, and specialised in the distribution of refrigeration equipment.
