- Legendre is set to build a 50MW power plant in Mali.
- Fana will operate the plant under a BOOT model.
Legendre Energie has signed a 25-year concession contract for the Fana solar power project with the Malian Ministry of the Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Energy. The developer will construct the solar plant under the BOOT (Build-Own-Operate-Transfer) model, a public-private partnership (PPP). The plant will have a capacity of 50MWp and will be sited in Dioïla circle, near the capital Bamako.
Legendre has set up a special purpose vehicle. “Fana Solar Power” for the project construction and operations. Legendre expects the plant to be commissioned in 2023. The power produced by the plant will be fed to the state-owned Électricité du Mali (EDM) grid via the EDM substation in Fana (150 kV). The entire project is expected to cost 32.8 billion CFA francs (€50 million).
Alousséni Sanou, Mali’s Minister of the Economy and Finance, stated that the project “aims to promote the national economy through the development of the energy sector. By increasing the electricity production capacity of the national interconnected network, it will help to meet the country’s ever-increasing demand for electricity.”
Mali has an installed capacity of about 310MW and imports about 50MW of electricity from the Ivory Coast. The current off-grid capacity for the country is about 90MWp.
