The British arm of French utility EDF has acquired Contact Solar, a solar panel and battery installation company based in Chorley, northwestern England. This follows EDF’s acquisition last year of heat pump installer CB Heating.
EDF, a large low-carbon electricity generator in the UK, said the acquisition would help make it able to provide “whole house” net zero home offers. It will also help them in integrating solar, battery, electric vehicle (EV) charge points and heat pumps.
EDF said solar panels reduce electricity consumption by up to 74% in each home and cited projections that their take-up will increase by 75 per cent between now and 2030.
EDF plans to work with Contact Solar’s network of qualified local installers across the country to serve residential customers, as well as local authorities, housing associations and developers in building and retrofitting homes.
Philippe Commaret, Managing Director of Customers at EDF, said more people want to save cash and carbon. Contact Solar can help provide better value and a great end-to-end solar panel install service. This can be achieved by utilising a company like Contact Solar, whose expertise, knowledge and service are exceptional, he noted.
