- Wärtsilä Group to construct and operate a 120MW power plant in Gabon
- To collaborate with Gabon Power Company
- Signs and O&M contract for 15 years
Wärtsilä Group, a technological firm, has reached an agreement with the Gabonese government to develop, construct, supply, operate and maintain a 120MW gas power plant in collaboration with state-owned Gabon Power Company (GPC). The group also signed an Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contract to last for 15 years. The power plant will be located at Owendo, and will supply electricity to the Société d’Energie et d’Eau du Gabon (SEEG).
Speaking on the project, GPC General Manager Marcellin Massila Akendengue said, ”This project will play an important role in bridging this deficit, and some 600,000 people will ultimately benefit from a more sustainable and economical electricity supply delivered to SEEG. The plant will replace rented generation assets by SEEG and bring significant benefits, in line with Gabon sustainability ambitions,”
The project is part of a Public-Private Partnership between the government of Gabon and the Wärtsilä Group. The partnership framework includes an asset transfer to the Gabonese authorities at the end of the concession agreement.
