Kiang community now has access to electricity
- This is in line with the Electricity Expansion Project

The surrounding communities of Kiang in the Gambia erupted in celebrations with the inauguration of “Operation Lampolama”. The Operation Lampolama project forms part of the Electricity Expansion Project (EEP) of President Adama Barrow’s administration. The project saw the connection of these communities to electricity. Kiang community have for over 50 years been in darkness. Residents of these communities trooped to the streets to welcome President Adama Barrow to the inauguration of the project.
The Electricity Expansion Project was, commissioned in 2017 by the administration of President Adama Barrow. The EEP forms part of the National Electricity Road Map for universal electricity access. The project plan covers over 75 communities from Kiang to the West Coast Region. The project cost is, estimated to be about, $22.5 million which was funded by the EXIM Bank of India.
Speaking at the inauguration, President Barrow said “Today, we are able to provide a reliable supply of electricity in most parts of the Greater Banjul Area and in many other areas of the country. As we pursue our countrywide electrification agenda, Kiang has now been added to the list of beneficiaries”
