- NAWEC apologises for poor supply
- Says routine maintenance is ongoing
Gambia’s National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has issued an apology for the poor and unstable electricity supply in the Greater Banjul Area. The Public Relations Officer (PRO), NAWEC Pierre Sylva, issued an apology while briefing the media on the reason for the erratic supply.
Sylva stated that, as a service provider, NAWEC is aware of the erratic power supply in the Greater Banjul Area and is working to resolve the challenges. He noted that the problem is dues to the breakdown of the ongoing routine maintenance exercise.
“When we procure engines from international companies, we do have what is called a warranty period, and that warrantee period is; whenever it has some problems within that warrantee period, it is the supplier of that engine to assess the damages and do the repairs,” Sylva stated.
“Engine No.5 in Kotu has some problems and the people that supplied it said, “we need to assess the damages which we are trying to do in order to know what the problems are and when we know the problems, then we would talk to them and if there are parts to procure, then they would start the procurement process and do all the necessary fixings,” he added.
Sylva apologised for any inconvenience due to the poor service delivery and assured consumers of a quick return to regular supply.
