- NNPC to focus on gas development
The Group Managing Director, NNPC Mele Kyari, recently in a media chat organized by the National Association of Energy Correspondents, acknowledged the challenges in the electricity sector due to the poor development of the gas sector. He stated that “The only oil and gas that survived during the COVID-19 with minimal negative change was gas. Gas will help the country out of its major challenge of electricity. The biggest challenge we have here is to take electricity to homes, industries and to use the resources we have to create that energy this country needs.”
He acknowledged the challenges brought on by the current transmission infrastructure as well as Distribution bottlenecks.
Speaking further, he stated that, the NNPC going forward will intensify its efforts on the development of the gas sector in the country. According to him, despite Nigeria been known for its Oil production, it is more of a gas country.
