Gbarian Kingdom which hosts the Gbarain power plant has suffered an electricity outage since last quarter 2020.

The Kingdom of Gbarain in Bayelsa state has been at loggerheads with the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) over the prolonged power outage in host communities. Gbarian kingdom plays host to the NDPHC Gbarain power plant.
A technical glitch which resulted in a fire incident at the power station has thrown the community into total darkness since the last quarter of 2020. According to community leaders, NDPHC was aware of the incident however, several months later, the issue hasn’t been resolved.
The President of Gbarain Youth Federation, Okponipre Iweribakumo, has expressed disappointment on the conduct of the NDPHC and said the residents were ‘only being restrained by the state government’s intervention in the issue’. The state government in response to the development, had approved an intervention to deal with the problem.
Olice Kemenanabo, an intermediary of the state government and NDPHC confirmed the approval of the state government’s intervention. He confirmed that work has already begun and, will be completed in a few days. He urged the NDPHC to take responsibility for its obligations in the host community.
