Plant to boost power supply in Senegal
- Cap des Biches will be located in Dakar
General Electric (GE) has secured a contract to supply Gas-to-Power generation equipment to Senegal’s largest power plant. The Cap des Biches, a 300MW power plant, will supply nearly 25 per cent of the country’s energy consumed.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for GE’s Gas Power business in Sub-Saharan Africa, Elizee Sesan, said; “Cap des Biches Power Plant in Senegal represents another opportunity to use gas-fired generators as an ideal complement to variable renewable resources because they can change power levels quickly, turn down to low levels when demand is lower, and start rapidly. All of these attributes enable gas turbines to work in concert with renewables to maintain reliability in a power system. The plant will provide flexible power to Senegal and help improve the quality of people’s lives”.
GE will deliver 9E.03 gas turbines, STF-A200 steam turbine, A39 generators, Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG) amongst others. The plant is being developed by Senegalese firm, West Africa Energy, and constructed by Turkish engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company, Calik Enerji.
