Ethiopia’s Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, has described the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) as a vital instrument for African prosperity. Speaking in Addis Ababa, he affirmed that the dam represents a blessing for Ethiopia and the entire region.
He explained that when Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt work together, they can build a foundation for shared development and peace. The three nations can create opportunities that uplift all Africans through collaboration and trust.
The Prime Minister stressed that the GERD is far more than an energy project. It symbolises regional unity and the collective will to secure African prosperity through sustainable progress. He called on neighbouring countries to prioritise cooperation over conflict, noting that mutual understanding will deliver lasting stability.
At the same time, Abiy cautioned against any external interference. He firmly stated that no power can forcefully impose its will on Ethiopia. True partnership, he said, must be grounded in fairness, mutual respect, and sovereignty.
Discussing international relations, the Prime Minister pointed out that peace cannot exist where injustice prevails. He reminded listeners that Ethiopia has long faced challenges defending its national interests but remains committed to justice and equality.
