German Government Consents to Hydrogen Import From MENA

  • H2-Industries to produce 2 million tonnes of hydrogen per year.

Germany’s government has consented to facilitate the connection between H2-Industries Inc, a projects developer, and local hydrogen off-takers. H2-Industries has earlier revealed its plans regarding waste-to-hydrogen plants in the MENA region.

Robert Habeck, Germany’s Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, revealed this after a meeting at an energy conference held in Jordan with the chief executive of H2-Industries, Michael Stusch.

“The meeting initiated a highly productive conversation regarding the future energy relationship between the Middle East, North Africa and Europe, focusing on the potential of green hydrogen, energy efficiency, innovation and renewable energy,” a company statement says. At the conference, the minister and other participants discussed the importance of establishing international energy partnerships to facilitate the importation of hydrogen into Europe.

In the EU’s REPowerEU plan, the European Commission already set an ambitious target of producing 10 million tonnes of green hydrogen domestically and importing the same amount by 2030.

H2-Industries has already announced development plans for waste-to-hydrogen projects in Oman and Egypt. The company revealed that from 2030, its plants in the MENA region will have reached the capacity of producing 2 million tonnes of clean hydrogen every year.
