Germany Adds 15MW Wind Energy Capacity

  • Stadtwerke Kiel plans a 15MW wind energy plant in Northern Germany.

Stadtwerke Kiel, a German municipal utility, plans to install a 15MW wind farm in Schleswig-Holstein to boost the state’s energy transition plan.

The Thaden wind plant, located 53 kilometres southwest of the city of Kiel, will comprise three Vestas V-126 turbines and one Vestas V-136 machine and are expected to produce 40 million kWh of clean power a year and supply some 12,000 households.

According to the firm, the facility will offset over 35,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. “The Thaden wind park will help reduce carbon emissions as SWK aims to reach climate-neutral electricity and district heating generation for the region of Kiel by 2040 at the latest,” said the utility’s chief executive Frank Meier. He noted that the wind park is just the beginning, and the utility is exploring more solar and wind projects.
