Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, announced that his nation would help Kenya’s renewable energy projects and climate change measures for energy security and environmental sustainability. Germany and Kenya have decided to deepen bilateral ties across the green energy sector.
During a state visit to Kenya, Scholz made the announcement that Europe’s largest economy would provide technical and financial support for green energy projects in the East African nation at a press conference alongside William Ruto, the President of the Republic of Kenya. The financing will help deploy green energy systems, which will help reduce reliance on fossil fuels and provide climate support and resilience.
Additionally, Germany and Kenya will expand cooperation regarding the research and development of energy projects, capacity building and job creation through investments in training programs and exchange opportunities. Such joint initiatives aim to create a competitive domestic market in Kenya, advancing innovation and socioeconomic growth.
The development comes at a time when Kenya is seeking to maximize the use of its vast renewable energy resources, including solar, wind and geothermal, to drive energy access and economic growth, and falls in line with national objectives of increasing the share of renewables in the energy mix.
