- German Chancellor announced that Germany would support Kenya’s renewable energy projects.
- Kenya is actively seeking to leverage all its abundant renewable energy resources.
During a state trip to Kenya, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that the country would provide technical and financial support to Kenya’s renewable energy projects and climate action initiatives. The announcement intends to enhance energy security and promote environmental sustainability in Kenya.
Germany and Kenya committed to strengthening the bilateral ties in the green energy sector during a joint press conference held with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Kenyan President William Ruto in Nairobi. Germany will contribute funding to assist Kenya in deploying green energy systems to help the East African country to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and improve climate resilience.
Chancellor Scholz commended Kenya’s ambition to achieve 100% renewable electricity production by 2030, expressing admiration for the country’s commitment to expedite this transition. He also suggested the production of ‘green’ fertilizers in Kenya to promote local fertilizer production and reduce its dependency on limited fertilizer suppliers such as Russia.
Kenya is actively seeking to leverage its abundant renewable energy resources, including solar, wind, and geothermal, to expand energy access and drive economic development. The collaboration with Germany aligns with the Kenyan government’s objectives of increasing the renewables share in the country’s energy mix.
Furthermore, Germany and Kenya will collaborate on research and development (R&D) of energy projects, capacity building, and job creation through investments in training programs and exchange opportunities, stimulating socioeconomic growth in Kenya.
