Germany Installed 403MW of Solar in May

    • Germany added 403.1MW of new solar PV capacity in May.
    • This represents a 33 per cent decrease from April.

Germany added 403.1MW of new solar PV capacity in May, according to data from the federal network agency the Bundesnetzagentur. However, this is a drop of 33 per cent compared to the 691.4MW added in April.

Of these new additions, 295MW was from PV projects outside the tender scheme for projects ranging from 300 kW to 10 MW. There was also a decline in rooftop PV projects with a capacity of 300 kW to 750 kW. These projects were entitled to receive feed-in-tariff, but the renewable energy reform law last year now includes them in tender qualifying projects.

In May, the total capacity of all subsidized PV systems in Germany reached 55.9GW. The Bundesnetzagentur also published new compensation rates, which will commence in July. The monthly decrease of solar subsidies remains at 1.4 per cent while fixed feed-in tariffs for rooftop systems will range between €0.0747/kWh and €0.0568/kWh, depending on the size of the system.
