Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has commenced the acceptance of comments on the draft area development plan that is to be used as a basis for the selection of areas for a 60 GW wind capacity in the North Sea and Baltic Sea by 2038. According to BSH, the draft plan was published on Friday on the agency’s website and will come into force at the beginning of 2023.
The invitation has been sent to authorities to express their opinion on the draft document until August 1, 2022. After that, the public has until September 1, 2022, to make their comments.
Germany wants to accelerate the deployment of offshore wind energy, and based on the draft, the BSH is commencing the implementation of the expansion strategy of the federal government. The country has a target of 30 GW offshore wind capacity by 2030 and 40GW by 2035. The long-term expansion target by 2045 is at least 70 GW.
