- The ISA aims to increase solar adoption and reduce fossil fuel dependence.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs has stated that Germany has ratified the International Solar Alliance (ISA) agreement. The Ministry’s spokesperson Arindam Bagchi stated that Germany handed Instrument of Accession to the ISA during a meeting between Dr Maria Flachsbarth & Mr Norbert Barthle, Parliamentary State Secretaries, German Ministry of Economic Cooperation & Development, with their Indian Counterparts Dammu Ravi & Noor Rahman Sheikh.
The ISA includes 124 countries aiming to work together to ensure accelerated solar deployment and the reduction of fossil fuel dependence. For example, Germany’s membership is expected to help with India’s cross-border power grid plan ‘One Sun, One World, One Grid’, which promotes cross-border solar electricity transmission. Currently, about 84 countries have signed the ISA agreement framework, with 67 having ratified it.
