Germany‘s Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) announced yet another reduction to roughly 2,709 MW in the capacity to be auctioned in the third round of the county’s onshore wind tender.
The move is based on BNetzA’s concerns that the tendered capacity could be higher than the bids to be received, a press statement showed on Wednesday.
The third round initially sought to select onshore wind projects with a combined capacity of 4,093 MW.
The deadline for interested parties to submit their bids, which should have a maximum value of EUR 0.0735 (USD 0.080) per kWh, is August 1, 2024.
BNetzA’s announcement was criticized by the German Wind Energy Association (BWE), which described the decision to reduce the available tender volume for a third time as a “wrong signal.” The organisation noted that permits were currently issued for around 5,600 MW of capacity that could participate in the auction.
The first round of the onshore wind tender selected 129 projects with a combined capacity of 1,795 MW against the 2.48 GW up for grabs.
Until now, Germany’s Federal Network Agency, on July 3, awarded support for 189 developments totalling almost 2.4GW in its onshore wind tender.
The agency has awarded support for projects at prices of between €0.072/kWh and €0.0735/kWh each. It backed most projects in the country’s North-Rhine Westphalia region (68 schemes totalling 727MW), followed by Lower Saxony (26 totalling 430MW) and Schleswig-Holstein (17 totalling 218MW).
