The German government will provide a €20 million grant to Ghana. The grant will support the strengthening of technical cooperation in the agribusiness, renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors. Germany’s international development cooperation agency will provide the funding, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The German ambassador signed the grant agreement to Ghana, Christoph Retzlaff and the director-general of the Ghanaian Ministry of Finance, Patrick Nomo.

The German ambassador noted that the grant would help to create jobs and protect the environment. “This grant is part of our development cooperation, which amounts to 130 million euros per year,” he added. The grant will enable technical support for clean energy deployment and energy efficiency projects for industry, public buildings and households.
In 2017, Germany committed €100 million to support private sector participation in Ghana’s renewable energy sector. This support has translated to a more conducive investment climate with several German and European clean energy providers entering the Ghanian Clean energy market.
