- Ex finance minister has stated that clean energy will help to increase the power supply in Ghana.
- Dr Duffor noted that their ease of deployment and zero carbon emissions make them better to complement hydropower as Ghana’s primary energy source.
Ghana’s former Finance Minister, Dr Kwabena Duffuor, has stated that the power rationing in Ghana is because the country has underexploited clean energy solutions. He noted that adopting clean energy will help to reduce the energy deficit in the country. The ex-minister assed that Ghana’s reliance on its old fragile hydropower plants and traditional biomass does not generate enough electricity to meet the demands of all the sectors.
Dr Duffor, in a public lecture on Monday, stated, “…renewable energy remains underexploited, and it is high time we converted these renewable potentials into actual energy. With industrialization, Ghana’s’ demand for electricity has been growing. This has prompted the country to seek alternative renewable energy sources to complement the currently dominant hydropower energy supply.” He added that the zero carbon emissions and ease of deployment also make renewable energy sources better than conventional fossil fuel sources.
