The Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, in his State of the Nation Address (SOUA) to the nation, has said that his administration has achieved progress in the electricity sector despite various challenges. His address comes as the country experienced a total blackout over the weekend.
In his address, Akufo-Addo said his administration had improved the electricity sector’s financial stability through several strategies, including the payment of legacy debts. He added that the national grid currently provides electricity to 85.17% of the country and hopes to improve to 100% by the end of his second term.
President Akufo-Addo added that his administration is embarking on several projects in the energy sector. One of such projects is the gas processing plant in the western region. The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) is also making some progress at the Tema Liquified Natural Gas (LNG). On completion, the project will be the first regasification terminal in Sub-Saharan Africa.
