- The debt amounts to GH¢25 million ($4.3 million USD)
The Ghanaian Minister-Designate for Communications, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, has stated that the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) will pay its electricity debt. The GBC owes a total of GH¢25 million to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
Speaking at the Ghanaian Parliament Mr. Nkrumah said, the GBC was seeking ways to manage the financial challenges faced by the corporation. “They still have significant financial challenges I must say, in terms of outstanding electricity bills and old debts that are hanging around them”, he said.
Mr. Nkrumah while speaking on the payment arrangement stated that the debt will be paid based on a ring-fenced arrangement with the ECG. Part of the GBC’s transmission infrastructure which contributed to the debt has been out of service due to the ongoing digitalisation of the GBC.
