GHANA: ECG Installs Smart Meters in Agbogbloshi

  • ECG installs smart meters in Accra market to reduce technical losses

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) began the installation of smart metering equipment in the popular Agbogbloshie market. The smart meters are compliant with the recently launched Meter Management System (MMS) aimed at integrating the metering structure in its network.

The Korle Bu District Manager, Mr Solomon Tsawe, stated that the move became necessary following a recently conducted technical assessment. ”A technical assessment we conducted revealed that customers had engaged in several types of illegalities in our network at the market. These smart meters will make it difficult for such illegal practices to persist; thus, reducing our commercial losses and enhancing efficiency,” Tsawe said.

The Accra West Regional General Manager ECG, Mr Ebenezer Ghunney, urged customers to desist from illegal connections or meter tampering. In addition, he urged the consumers to report suspects to the appropriate authority.
