- ECG recovers millions from illegally connected customers
- To improve metering in a bid to secure revenues
Following the recent clamp down on illegal connections by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the utility has recovered at least GH¢6,525,642 illegally connected customers in the Tema Metropolis.
The National Task Force and the ECG’s Revenue Protection Unit carried out the disconnection and revenue recovery exercise. As a result, a total of 12,730 illegally connected customers were discovered following the exercise.
This followed visits by the National Task Force and ECG’s Revenue Protection Section to 12,730 customers in which they unearthed 1,537 illegal connections.
The Managing Director of ECG, Mr Kwame Agyeman-Budu, disclosed that following the disconnections, the ECG would ensure the revenue stream securitisation across its network through smart metering for consumers.
“In accordance with government’s digital agenda and to modernise ECG, we are implementing the enterprise resource planning programme to enhance our business processes and drive efficiency. We have also launched the meter management services to aggregate the various metering systems onto a single platform for easy monitoring and management.” Agyeman-Budu said.
The ECG also urged customers to desist from and report illegal connections to ensure the stability and reliability of electricity services.
