GHANA: ECG Staff Move to Oust MD

  • ECG staff begin campaign to oust MD
  • Say he is grossly inefficient
  • Allege continuous revenue loss under his leadership

The staff of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have begun campaigns to oust the current Managing Director, Kwame Agyeman-Budu from office. The staff allege that Mr. Agyeman-Budu is inefficient and has presided over a continuous loss of revenues for the ECG.

In a statement released, the workers allege Mr. Agyeman-Budu “is grossly deficient when it comes to matters relating to administrative and corporate governance”. According to the workers, the continuous stay of the MD in office will inevitably result in the collapse of the ECG.

“The Union decries the alarming rate at which the company’s technical and commercial losses are galloping. A conservative estimate puts the current system loss figure at over 34% as at February 2021, and there are no concert strategies in place to bring them down in the short and medium term”, the statement read.

While the staff of ECG seek to oust the MD, another faction of the staff who chose to remain anonymous have called the actions of their colleagues unreasonable. Also speaking on the allegations by the Union, the pro-MD faction says their concerns are laughable.
