- ECG warns against illegal meters
- Up to five arrests were made due to the distribution of illegal meters
- ECG to prosecute perpetrators
Ghana’s state-owned utility, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Eastern Region, has raised the alarm over the infiltration of illegal meter distributors in the region. The ECG has warned consumers to be alert on the activities of illegal meter distributions who have, in recent times, flooded the region with illegal meters.
The General Manager Eastern Region, Mr Michael Baah, announced that five suspects were apprehended in New Abirem and Suhum districts in connection with illegal meters. Mr Baah stated that the ECG would implement strict measures to curb the activities of illegal meter distributors.
”The company is therefore sending a strong signal to all people involved in such acts to stop,” he said.
He further noted that the consumers stood the risk of electrocution due to the meters’ substandard quality and noted that the meters were putting a lot of pressure on ECG distribution transformers.
