Ecow-Gas has signed an agreement with Burkina Faso to construct a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage and regasification facility in the country. Upon completion of the project, Burkina Faso will join Sierra Leone and Liberia as part of the Ecow-Gas regional infrastructure network.

Burkina Faso’s Minister of Mines and Energy, Dr Bachir Ismaël Ouédraogo, in a statement, said, ”We are excited about the prospect of LNG in Burkina Faso, and the supply of fuel from Ecow-Gas will benefit industry and communities alike by reducing costs and increasing energy access for all,”

“LNG’s introduction to our country is in line with government’s priorities to provide a platform to continue our energy transition towards a cleaner future while committing to sustainable economic grow,” Ouédraogo added.

Ecow-Gas is an affiliate of the Tema LNG Terminal Company (TLTC) which owns the LNG infrastructure hub in Tema. In a statement by Ecow-Gas on the development, the company said, with the new deal, Tema LNG  ”…is being positioned as a genuine regional hub and putting Ghana at the forefront of the energy transition,”

The Tema terminal will create an LNG hub with a storage capacity above 180,000 m3 to serve the regional market.
