Minister Amewu announced the milestone
- Begins exportation of more than 250MW to neighbouring countries
- Beneficiaries include Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin
The Former Minister of Energy Ghana, John Peter Amewu has said the Ministry achieved a critical milestone in its history with the exportation of excess generation capacity of up to 300MW. According to Online Newspaper, the Minister-Designate for Transportation made this known at the Appointments Committee hearing.
Amewu stated that the Ghanaian energy sector under his leadership, generated enough electricity to surpass demand and subsequently began exportation to neighbouring countries. He named Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Togo and Benin as the beneficiaries of this milestone achievement.
“I am happy to announce to this House that for the first time in the history of this country export arrangements are in excess sometimes of about 250 to 300 megawatts being given to Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Benin and Republic of Togo”, he said.
The administration of President Nana Akufo-Addo announced its plans to begin the export of electricity to neighbouring countries in 2019.
