- Phase 1 of the Nuclear programme completed
- Expression of Interests received from vendors
The Executive Director, Nuclear Power Ghana, Dr Stephen Yamoah, has given an update on the Ghanaian Nuclear Programme, noting that Phase 1 of the programme had been completed. Phase one includes a pre-feasibility study, assessment of infrastructure, financing, technology to be deployed, safety, security, and siting had been completed.
Yamoah noted that the programme is currently in Phase 2. This Phase includes engaging vendors, further site assessment, contracts, recruitment and training of staff. ”So far, a couple of vendors have expressed interest, so we have issued a request for information, seeking technical and financial information. We will evaluate their responses and make a recommendation to the government for a decision to be made,” he said.
The final phase will be the commission and operation of the nuclear power plant. The Ghanaian nuclear programme, according to Yamoah, would help Ghana meet its obligations under the Paris Agreement.
