Ghana tops the electricity investment destination in Sub-Saharan Africa

The Fitch Solutions Power Risk/Reward Index 2021 has ranked Ghana as the most attractive destination for electricity investments in Sub-Saharan Africa. Ghana leads the chart with 85% ahead of Kenya (76%) and Cameroun (75.4%). The report shows that the Ghanaian government has prioritised private sector participation in the electricity sector resulting in high investment levels.
According to the report, despite a rising debt profile, the Ghanaian electricity sector has recorded 84% access to electricity making it the highest in West Africa. “We expect that markets, where governments prioritise cooperation with the private sector through measures such as public-private partnerships, will see the highest level of investment…”, the report reads.
