- GRIDCO explains gas shortages at thermal plants
- Gas leak at the Takoradi processing plant to blame
- Repairs are ongoing to fix the leak
The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) has issued a statement explaining the recent gas supply shortage to the thermal power plants. In a statement released, GRIDCo explains the shortages were due to a gas leak at the Takoradi gas processing plant.
”A reported leakage by Ghana Gas on its processing plant at Takoradi has curtailed gas supply to a number of thermal generating plants in the country. A number of gas-fired generating plants were, therefore, shut down on Monday, June 7, 2021. Consequently, this led to power outages in some parts of Greater Accra and Tema”, the statement read.
According to the statement, repair works are currently ongoing to fix the gas leak and restore the gas supply to the affected thermal plants.
