- Prempeh hints at suspending fuel levies
- Plans to cushion the impact of rising oil prices
Ghana’s Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has stated that he is working alongside the Ministry of Finance towards suspending some fuel levies to cushion the effects of the global rise in the cost of oil. He based his decision on the need to manage fuel prices and keep electricity supply affordable and available. He made this known in a meeting with the delegation from the Ghana Energy Awards (GEA).
Prempeh also stated that the Ministry of Energy under his leadership would also focus on improving metering in the sector. “There’s more need for meters than the government can acquire”, Prempeh stated while adding that the Ministry is looking to involve the private sector in the provision of meters.
The GEA delegation was led by the Chairman Awarding Panel, Mr Kwame Jantuah, and other senior members of the organization.
