Ghana to Increase Clean Energy Penetration by 10% over 10 Years.

  • Ghana plans to increase renewable energy penetration by 10% this decade.
  • The country will accelerate mini-grid deployment in off-grid and island communities.

Ghana’s Energy Minister, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has stated that the government is committed to providing stable and cost-effective energy for industrial development.  The Minister stated this at the inaugural Presidential Business Summit to dialogue on the role of the private sector in Ghana’s Post COVID economic recovery. He added that the Ministry would focus on clean and alternative energy sources to complement conventional power generation in the country. According to Dr Prempeh, the government plans to increase clean energy penetration by 10 per cent by 2030.

“Going forward, we are encouraging increased private sector investment in utility-scale solar (solar-hydro hybrid) and wind energy projects, as well as accelerate the development of mini-grid solutions in off-grid and island communities for lighting, irrigation and other economic activities”, The minister stated.
