The ‘dumsor’ as it is known has become persistent
- Residents of Kumasi has made several complaints
- ECG blames outages on transmission
Residents of Kumasi in Ghana have continued to complain of the persistent power outages experienced in the region. According to the residents, these outages have been going on since the beginning of the year. “This is not what we voted Nana Addo for. The government must ensure that this is fixed before it affects the NPP in 2024″, one consumer said.
Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has attributed these outages to the transmission grid network. Erasmus Kyere Baidoo, a Public Relations Officer of the company acknowledged the challenges faced by the ECG. He said, “If the transmitter has a challenge then it is not only in Kumasi but all over our substations. For now, I know transmission challenges. We will have it fixed very soon. There is nothing much we can do”.
The Ashanti region where Kumasi is located is a stronghold of the Ghanaian ruling party.
